Abstract
During the 26th year of the Journal, a total of 700 unsolicited manuscripts (original research, essays, concepts/methods and review articles) were submitted. This compares with 379 in 2019-20, an 84% increase. Submissions come from around the world: UK (15%), the rest of Europe (17%), North America (18%), South America (2%), Asia (33%), Africa (6%), and Australia and New Zealand (9%). By October 2021, 20 (3%) had been accepted for publication and 655 (93%) rejected; 15 (2%) of submissions were invited to re-submit a revised version. We aim to inform authors within 12 weeks of our initial decision (ie whether or not a manuscript will be sent for peer-review), and over the 26th year the mean time was 4 weeks. The mean time from submission to first decision after peer review was 15 weeks. For the 33 papers published in volume 26, the mean length of time between resubmission and acceptance was 105 days (range 46–328). The mean time from acceptance to online publication was 21 days.
