Abstract

The 2019 Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has generated exponential growth in the use of telehealth, in a diverse range of clinical settings. 1 No doubt, telehealth continues to transform the way health services are delivered. Whilst we can base our views on decades of published experience demonstrating the feasibility, benefits (and challenges) of telehealth, one promising development emerging through the pandemic, has been the increased awareness from a consumer perspective. As more people experience telehealth personally, we anticipate an ongoing expectation that telehealth services will continue to be provided as part of routine healthcare. This raises challenges in the way we actively change models of care, train our workforce, engage with consumers, and ensure sure that systems (infrastructure, information, and funding) are configured appropriately to sustain telehealth services into the future. 2
From an Editor's perspective, we might be able to gauge telehealth advancement by the number, diversity and quality of manuscripts being submitted to the journal. Since the onset of the pandemic, the total number of manuscripts being submitted to the journal have continued to increase. In the last 12 months, a total of 1055 manuscripts were submitted to the JTT, compared to 954 the year before. Of these, about 25% were sent out for peer-review after editorial consultation, and about the same proportion were referred to alternative journals (such as discipline specific journals). The Impact Factor of 6.184 is the highest ever score to date for the JTT. In terms of ranking, the JTT is the leading journal in its field, and is in the top 10% of journals in the category of Health care Sciences and Services. These achievements reflect the efforts of the JTT editorial and production teams, authors, peer-reviewers, and our international readers.

The ratio between the number of citations and the number of articles published gives the impact factor. The JTT published 147 citable articles and received 909 citations. The JTT's impact factor was 6.184 and the journal ranked 8th out of 108 and is in the first quartile in this category.
