Abstract

Congratulations go to Hanna Baumann and Henrietta Moore, whose article entitled ‘Towards a Relational Understanding of Vulnerability: The Response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis in Lebanon Through a Feminist Lens’ (published in Volume 25 Issue 1, January 2025) has been names the best article published in the journal in 2025 by the PIDS editorial team.
Hanna and Henrietta’s article examines how humanitarian and development organizations conceptualize vulnerability in the international response to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon, reading two key aid programmes against recent feminist theorizations of the term. It argues that adopting a relational and dynamic view of vulnerability—one that foregrounds interdependence, the generative nature of openness to others, and the interlocked scales at which vulnerability operates—can open possibilities for more inclusive and transformational development approaches.
On behalf of the PIDS editorial team,
