Abstract

Over the last several years, the number of published articles featuring contemplative education and related areas of inquiry and practice has grown rapidly. We thought it would be interesting to bring several of these articles from the archives of the Journal of Transformative Education under the umbrella of a special online issue.
It is our distinct honor and privilege to introduce the author of the guest editorial for this special online issue, Dr. Jack Miller who teaches courses in contemplative education and holistic education at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. He has helped many students learn the art of meditation, both within the university and around the world. Among the many books that he has authored related to contemplative education is Education and the Soul: Toward a Spiritual Curriculum (Miller, 2000). This and several of his other texts clearly articulate the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual intersection of the two fields of contemplative education and transformative education.
We asked Dr. Miller to provide his perspective on the articles featured in this issue, especially as they relate to his broader understanding of the field of contemplative education and their interrelationship to transformative education and transformative learning. We hope you enjoy this special issue on contemplative education and transformative learning.
