Abstract

The following questions for SVU-CME examination are based on the article entitled “Correlation Between Various Definition of Superficial Venous Reflux and Clinical Presentation of Venous Disease” by Mehrdad Mac Farid, Bernardo Fernandez, Szilvia Udvari-Nagi, Suresh Kacham, Tracey Mountjoy Cross, Melissa Catapano, and Lisa Rodriguez.
Both true/false and multiple-choice questions are included. There is only one (1) correct answer for the multiple-choice test items. Answer all the questions as listed below. One-half (1/2) CME credit will be awarded for successful completion of this test with a grade of 80% or more.
According to CEAP (clinical manifestation, etiologic factors, anatomic distribution, pathophysiologic dysfunction) which is NOT a criteria used to define patient”s clinical presentation? A. healed, or active venous ulceration. B. lipodermatosclerosis. C. size of superficial veins. D. previous history of deep or superficial venous thrombosis.
Venous disease and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is common in general population and the prevalence reported to be ___ and ___ among adult men and women respectively. A. 9.4%; 6.6% B. 10.7%; 5.5% C. 25.2%; 15.4% D. 32.1%; 17.3%
Most common finding of CVI is venous valvular incompetence. A. True B. False
Demographics of all recruited patients including age, with clinical conditions including CAD, DM, peripheral artery disease, and obesity were analyzed with higher CEAP scores found in ___. A. PAD - peripheral artery disease B. CAD - coronary artery disease C. DM – diabetes mellitus D. obesity
Duration of reflux in seconds and expressed in length of reflux was separated to lower reflux duration of less than ____ (grade I) and higher reflux duration equal or above _____ (grade II and higher) A. 0.5 second; 0.5 second B. 1 second; 1 second C. 2 seconds; 2 seconds D. 2 seconds; 3 seconds
According to the study no clear statistical correlation between definition of venous insufficiency at superficial venous system based on categorical presence of venous reflux and higher clinical severity of venous disease based on CEAP classification was found. A. True B. False
