Abstract

The following questions for SVU-CME examination are based on the article entitled “A Vascular Surgery–Specific Ultrasound Model for Vascular Access.”
Both true/false and multiple-choice questions are included. There is only one (1) correct answer for the multiple-choice test items. Answer all the questions as listed below. One-half (1/2) CME credit will be awarded for successful completion of this test with a grade of 80% or more.
Low-cost and easy-to-make vascular access models can be created using all of the following mediums except:
Ballistic gel Chicken breast Flank steak Tofu
Complications of arterial vascular access include dissection and acute critical limb ischemia.
True False
After mixing the water and gelatin powder, it is essential to allow ________for the gelatin to bloom.
1 to 2 minutes 7 minutes 15 minutes Overnight
According to the article, a 7-cm straw can be used to mimic a nondiseased vessel which is the average diameter of the common femoral artery.
True False
The vascular access model can be preserved up to a _________ in a sealed container and remelted again for repeat use.

In this study, the model allows for the replication of “tenting of the artery” that is a marker for ensuring an accurate puncture.
