Abstract

As I prepare for the close of the year and the conclusion of my term as President, I find myself reflecting on all the hard work, changes, and achievements we have reached together as a society. However, on the deeper meaning of what it has meant to serve as President of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), this final address is both a farewell and a heartfelt expression of gratitude to a community that has shaped my professional life in many ways.
Serving as your President has been an honor. We are a society built on shared values of excellence, integrity, education, and compassion, and it has been a privilege to help steward those values during this chapter of our organization’s history. My time as President was not always fun; however, as with anything that is of value, it is worth working hard to attain it. I will have to say that at times it was definitely hard. And that’s all I have to say about that.
Over the past 2 years, we have navigated a rapidly evolving health care environment while remaining firmly rooted in what matters most: high-quality patient care. We strengthened educational pathways, expanded access to resources, and reinforced clinical standards that support technologists and clinicians in every practice setting. These accomplishments are the result of collective effort, dedication, and the willingness of our members to invest in the future of our profession.
We also leaned into innovation. We brought forward conversations about emerging technologies, about the balance between automation and human expertise (artificial intelligence), and about preparing the next generation of vascular professionals. I am proud that SVU continues to stand at the intersection of tradition and advancement, grounded in evidence, forward-thinking in strategy, and unwavering in our commitment to quality.
To the Board of Directors, committee chairs, volunteers, and staff who worked tirelessly alongside me: thank you. Your counsel, creativity, and encouragement made it possible for us to achieve what we have over these past 2 years. Leading this organization was never a solitary effort; it was a shared endeavor built on collaboration and trust.
To our members: thank you for your passion. Thank you for your dedication to your patients, your craft, and to each other. Your engagement is the heartbeat of this society, and your belief in our mission is what propels SVU forward.
While my term as President is ending, my commitment to SVU is not. I look forward to supporting our incoming leadership and to watching our society continue to grow, strengthen, and innovate. We stand on semi-solid ground, and we are poised for an era of continued advancement in vascular imaging, education, and advocacy.
I end this year with a deep sense of gratitude. It has been an experience to say the least, but truly a privilege to represent this society, and I will carry the experiences of this role with me.
Thank you for trusting me, for inspiring me, and for allowing me to serve (even to those of you who didn’t want me to).
With sincere appreciation and respect,
Josh Lee, MBA, RVT, FSVU
