Abstract

The American Association for Hand Surgery and our journal HAND are honored and enthusiastic about this supplemental issue on peripheral nerve research. Scientists have been exploring enhancement modalities for peripheral nerve regeneration for many years.1 -4 The compilation of nerve studies is an assemblage of musing areas of interest that encompass trauma, anatomy, surgical techniques, and imbalances of human homeostasis.5 -9 The ongoing research is paramount to the advancement of our management of nerve maladies.
Peripheral nerve regeneration is complicated with intrinsic and extrinsic factors annotating the outcomes and our ability to achieve uniform results of reparative or reconstructive surgery. We endeavor to comprehend the effectiveness of our surgery and help each other through scientific rigor to guide decision making and enhance surgical techniques culminating in best-practice navigation of nerve surgery.
