Welcome Message from the Presidents of WFITN 2022
I am pleased to welcome you to the 16th Congress of World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN2022), which will take place in Kyoto, Japan on August 21 th – 25th in 2022. WFITN is scientific organization about neuro interventional treatment, founded in 1990, and WFITN congress is to be held biennially, this will be the second WFITN congress held in Kyoto, following the 3rd Congress in 1995. Japanese Society for NeuroEndovascular Therapy (JSNET) established in 1982, and have been contributed to WFITN since founded. On behalf of JSNET, it is our profound pleasure and great honor to host WFITN2022 back again in Kyoto. We decided the main theme of this congress to be “From the Origin to the Future”. We hope this congress will serve as a springboard again and strongly contribute the remarkable and world-wide advancement of neuro-endovascular fields. You can participate in very active discussions and cutting-edge lectures by the world famous physician, and scientists. This congress promises to become a useful opportunity for you to encounter the history and up-to-date knowledge and technology. Kyoto was the capital city of Japan for over 1000 years until the Emperor moved to Tokyo in 1868. It has 17 UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites and over 2000 temples and shrines, often called “Japan's heartland”. On the other hand, Kyoto is not simply protecting its old traditions and culture, but is rather building upon the rich traditions of predecessors as a foundation for open domestic and international exchange. You can feel Japan's “origin” and “future”, also origin to future scientific direction about our fields. We are honored to be able to host this important World Congress in Kyoto of the world's finest meeting place. End of September is one of most comfortable seasons for Kyoto with beautiful scenery and foods. We are very excited to see you from every part of the world and to welcome you to FANTASTIC KYOTO.
Sincerely,
Welcome Message from the WFITN President
It is with great pleasure that the WFITN welcomes you virtually or in person to the 16th biennial meeting in Kyoto. Planning for this event started in 2017 after the Budapest meeting which seems like a very long time ago. A lot has changed around the world since then and I am very grateful to the organizing committee for all the delays and changes they have adapted to and the challenges they have overcome.
Those of us working in hospitals have had to cope with all the changes brought by the pandemic. For me, and I am sure many others, it meant less patient contact, budget shifts and now catching up as the pandemic subsides. In addition, burn out of staff, reduced training contact and increased waiting lists are some issues we need to deal with. What a relief that we can once again meet in person to share our problems, discuss solutions and celebrate our successes.
The Kyoto meeting will also be the first time that the new Federation Assembly comprised of society representatives meets. Their task is to continue the job of producing consensus guidelines for neurointervention. Many of the previous documents like “Recommendations for Training in INR” and the “Ethics Charter” have helped shape our speciality and I look forward to the assembly members taking this forward.
Congress president Nobuyuki Sakai and the congress team have chosen the theme “From the Origin to the Future”. This is fitting as we return to Kyoto where one of the early WFITN meetings was held in 1995. So much has changed in neurointervention since then and I look forward to a program filled with great speakers and excellent topics, as well as the incredible hospitality of Kyoto.
I am indebted to the WFITN Excom who have all served an extra year during the pandemic and would like to thank the membership for entrusting us to continue the work of the WFITN beyond the anticipated 2 year term. The WFITN continues to grow, has an active and loyal membership, an accomplished executive director in Sabine Heckman and a growing international society base. It is fitting that the honour of the presidency goes to Michihiro Tanaka while we meet in Japan. Congratulations Michihiro, I know you will do a great job!
