Abstract

I became the founding editor of Research in Comparative and International Education (RCIE) in 2005 and the first issue of the journal was published on-line in March 2006. Now, after eleven years as editor, I am passing the reins to Hubert Ertl, who will assume responsibility for RCIE from the first issue of 2017.
The intention of the journal has been to concentrate on publishing papers that deal with reporting research findings or describing challenges of research design, and the early expectation of the editorial board was that the journal would be particularly attractive to young scholars who were exploring methodological possibilities in their research. That has proved to be the case: the journal has consistently focused on the reporting of research findings and on discussion of research methods in comparative and international education, as well as encouraging younger academics. In addition, we have endeavoured to publish two thematic issues a year, and our many guest editors have put together collections of papers representing a range of topics of relevance to comparative inquiry.
Recently, the editorial board (Nicola Savvides, Julia Paulson, and Carole Hahn) has been joined by Maia Chankseliani and Peter Kelly. The new editor will therefore be supported by a strong team representing expertise in many aspects of comparative and international education. I wish the journal every success in its future endeavours.
