Abstract

Answer A
A test with a high specificity has a low false positive (or type 1 error) rate. Antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) have a low specificity of 56% in rheumatoid arthritis, and hence a high false positive rate. ANAs are found in patients with other connective tissue diseases and some autoimmune diseases (e.g. hepatitis C).
