Answer D. Reduce sustained release morphine sulphate to 40 mg
Opioid toxicity can present in many ways including over sedation, hallucinations, hypersensitivity to touch and muscles twitching. To manage opioid toxicity aim to reduce the opioid dose by a third and pursue alternative analgesia if still in pain. If the patient develops life threatening respiratory depression owing to their opioid treatment, the emergency services should be called to administer naloxone as this is a reversible condition irrespective of their underlying condition.
