You are seeing a 36-year-old patient with a 2 week history of pleuritic-sounding chest pains with cough and shortness of breath. On examination he is apyrexial, his pulse is 76 beats per minute. His blood pressure is 127/82 mmHg. His respiratory rate is 17 breaths per minute and his oxygen saturation is 90%. Chest examination is clear. A repeat of his oxygen saturation using another pulse oximeter gives a reading of 91%. You look back in his notes and oxygen saturation was 99% in a previous consultation 2 weeks ago.
