Abstract

Answer C. Methylphenidate
Stimulants are the mainstay of treatment in childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methylphenidate is recommended by The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as the initial agent and will be effective in about three-quarters of children. Atomoxetine is also used in treatment in childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) if stimulants are deemed inappropriate because of the risk of misuse by a household member, an eating disorder, significant tic disorder, insufficient duration of action, major sleep problems or family opposition to stimulants.
