Neuropathic agents are recommended for specific conditions. They have a better long-term safety profile. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory tablets can have gastrointestinal, renal and cardiovascular side effects and opioids can lead to tolerance and addiction. Of the neuropathic agents, duloxetine is indicated specifically for diabetic neuropathy.
