Abstract

Answer E. Urgent referral to gynaecology on the 2-week-wait pathway
With the clear diagnosis of prolapse, serious underlying causes should be ruled out. Focused system review should rule out potentially serious underlying causes, such as intra-pelvic malignancy. Consider asking about bloating, early satiety and unexplained abdominal pain, which may point to a sinister ovarian cause. Unexplained weight loss, a palpable pelvic mass or unexplained post-menopausal bleeding (as is the case here) all require a 2-week wait referral.
