Abstract

Answer B. Every 3 years
Women between 25 and 64 years of age are invited for routine cervical screening as part of the screening programme. Both England and Northern Ireland continue to screen individuals every 3 years until the age of 49 years of age and every 5 years after until 64 years. With the introduction of human papilloma virus (HPV) testing as the primary test, the United Kingdom screening committee advised that individuals aged between 25 and 64 only need screening every 5 years instead of 3 years, provided no human papilloma virus is detected. This has been adopted by the cervical cancer screening programmes of Scotland and Wales.
