Also known as atrophic vaginitis, vulvovaginal atrophy is a condition that results from the decline of oestrogen. This condition is typically found in perimenopausal, menopausal and breastfeeding women. The symptoms can include vaginal dryness, irritation, and dyspareunia and urinary symptoms. On speculum examination the vaginal mucosa typically appears pale and dry and may bleed on contact.
