For patients who have risk factors for osteoporosis but do not have a vertebral fracture, a 10-year fragility fracture risk should be calculated prior to arranging a Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan. Two commonly used online risk stratification tools are QFracture® and FRAX®. Use of QFracture® is preferred in the United Kingdom.
