Abstract

Today, I wish to highlight issues with two papers submitted recently to the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly (CHQ), which both received desk rejections. Both papers included references to articles in the CHQ. However, the referenced articles do not exist in the CHQ, nor in any other journal that I could find.
Those of you who have followed the development of artificial intelligence (AI) systems likely are aware that such tools are prone to hallucinations. For those of you who teach students, do you like to read material created using AI that is submitted by students? In what way would feedback on such work be meaningful? It certainly would not develop the students’ intellect or skill set.
In the same way, what referee would be interested in reviewing an article written by or with the assistance of an AI? Would such articles bring esteem to an author or to the journal that published the work? To be totally clear, do not send such work to the CHQ: It will not be favorably received.
