Abstract

Welcome to the latest edition of the JCU, which as you can immediately see, has a completely different feel to normal. This issue is entirely devoted to case reports, thus offering itself as a hugely interesting collection of the unusual coupled with learning points, tips and warnings at every turn. Without question something (if not everything) for everyone.
As I am sure most editors will agree, the humble case report is often considered the great divider of academia. Representing the lowest level of evidence, but perhaps being the most interesting, case reports are often under valued, under cited and under the radar when it comes to publication, or more specifically when it comes to finding an appropriate publication in which to feature. They never, however, suffer from being under read.
The JCU is proud to be one of the few remaining titles continuing to value case reports and as such we receive an increasing number. Whilst significant numbers do not make it through the rigorous peer review system, many do and are absolutely worthy of publication.
The ultimate effect of all this is that the JCU accepts case reports at a rate that outstrips its ability to publish and hence we have taken the decision to dedicate an entire issue to case reports, both to highlight their importance to the urological literature and to ensure publication in a timely fashion.
The future relationship between the JCU and case reports will likely mean that most will be published online only with just a small minority making it to the print version of the journal.
I do hope that you enjoy this edition with its variation from the norm and I would like to thank all authors for contributing their case reports and being so patient whilst awaiting publication. I hope you enjoy seeing your cases in print.
Thank you as ever for your support for the JCU.
