The Redesigned Danatech.org: Easier to Access, Easier to Use
The newly redesigned danatech website launched this past fall. We’ve eliminated complicated usernames and passwords and membership and registration requirements. So not only is it easier for you to use, you can refer patients to specific resources or info as well. We’ve also added tools, more affordability program details, and additional training and education. And this is just Step 1. We’ll be enhancing it further with direction from our members from here on out! If you haven’t already, check it out at danatech.org.
New: Professional Competencies for Diabetes Technology Use in a Care Setting
One item you’ll find in danatech.org is a new practice paper that outlines recommendations for
establishing standards for minimum competencies for health care providers, including clinical staff and diabetes care and education specialists;
developing your master list of the role-based knowledge and skills needed to support diabetes technology;
promoting interprofessional practice and collaboration across disciplines.

Changes Coming to Medicare Coverage Policy for Continuous Glucose Monitors
On October 6, Medicare announced proposed changes to the coverage criteria for continuous glucose monitors (CGMs), including removing the requirement that people must be taking multiple (3) daily injections of insulin per day to be eligible for a CGM. These changes would expand access to CGM for Medicare beneficiaries with type 2 diabetes and reflect ongoing advocacy by ADCES and other members of the diabetes community, including patient advocacy organizations, provider groups, and industry partners. The Medicare Administrative Contractors who oversee this policy, specifically the local coverage determinations for CGMs, held a public meeting on November 15 and accepted written public comments on these proposed changes through November 19. At the time of publication, Medicare had not yet released the final policy. ADCES encourages members to subscribe to the Advocacy Forum on ADCES Connect to receive regular updates on the status of these policy changes.
ADCES turns 50!
This year marks our 50th anniversary and we have a year-long party planned. Look for us on social media, highlighting our members, celebrating them and telling their unique stories. We’re also going to share reminiscences from long-time members, sharing the story of how the association got started and how we progressed through the years into the influential organization we are today. Our sister journal, The Science of Diabetes Self-Management and Care will also be offering up seminal moments in our history and the journal articles that chronicled it. And, of course, all will culminate at ADCES23 where the real birthday party will take place. We hope you can join us in Houston!
