The American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) administered more than 5,400 examinations to more than 2,600 candidates on October 27-28, 1984, at 23 test centers across the United States and Canada. Of these, 1,441 candidates became Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) andlor Registered Vascular Technologists (RVT) and 404 RDMS/RVTs became registered in an additional specialty. Since 1975, when the Registry by examination procedure began for diagnostic medical sonography, more than 8,200 professionals have earned certificates.
