Inhibition of the Corrosion of 63/37 Brass in Nitric Acid

o-Anisidine, o-phenetidine and o-toluidine were investigated as inhibitors of the corrosion of 63/37 brass in nitric acid. o-Phenetidine was the most efficient inhibitor. For all three inhibitors, at higher inhibitor concentrations the loss in weight of metal in 4N nitric acid was less than that in 3N nitric acid. Lengthening the chain in the alkyl group attached to the ether linkage improved the inhibitor efficiency. o-Phenetidine and o-toluidine acted predominantly on local cathodic areas, but o-anisidine was a mixed type of inhibitor.
