Teaching Counseling and Psychotherapy Skills without Access to a Clinical Population: The Short Interview Method

Abstract

The method described is designed to teach verbal helping skills to students who do not have access to clinical populations. Open- ended interviews with “real” people are used as the primary training device; role-playing simulations and programmed instruction complement this experience.
