Abstract
The design and development of an instructional videodisc requires attention to the way the many flexible possibilities of the disc are integrated. The constraints on the process involve: 1. the intrinsic characteristics of the medium; 2. the intrinsic characteristics of people; 3. the traditions and conventions of the medium; and 4. the expectations that people have regarding the medium and the instructional process. Aspects of each of the above are discussed with the intention of emphasizing a combination of artistry and knowledge in the design process.
