Abstract
There is no drug abuse problem, only a people problem. Young people need an alternative to drugs and this alternative cannot be found unless parents are willing to change both their drinking and drug abuse habits. The answer to the drug problem must be found not in pharmacology but at the grass roots level, on a one-to-one basis and the problem must be treated as an overall mental health problem. Unless “Madison Avenue” and the drug houses can be convinced that pills are not the answers to everyone's problems, drug abuse will continue to grow until it has reached unsolvable proportions.
