Abstract
From 1976 to 1979 studies were conducted at the C.R.I. "Nataima" of the Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario, in order to collect, identify and determine the importance of arthropods found in soybeans in the Departament of Tolima. The role of 22 pests is discussed. Five of these, Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner, Spodoptera sunia (Guenée), S. frugiperda (J. E. Smith), (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Tetranychus sp. (Acari: Tetranychidae) and Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), were determined to be principal pests. Various natural enemies of these pests were also found.
Observations on the abundance of the insect pests and their effect on the plant defoliation were also made.
