The efficacy of two different personal support systems for first year undergraduates are compared subjectively and statistically. The response analysis reveals the nature and magnitude of problems experienced in one department and the sources of solutions. Both problems and examination failures were fewer under one of the two systems described.

A simple apparatus is described for students to measure electromagnetic force, calculate flux, reluctance of composite circuit and plot the B-H curves of magnetic materials. Only an ammeter and spring balance are handled and the results are comparable to more involved measurements.

A general method of solving d.c. network problems by constructing graphically the electrical characteristics of the circuit components is developed. This graphical technique, which has not previously been fully utilized, is shown to be an alternative to the well-known algebraic techniques. The method is illustrated with standard network examples.
