Software reliability represents a topic of paramount importance in many sectors of industry and society. In addition to this, it is characterized by a high-degree of dynamism as shown in literature. Published papers have addressed this research from different points of view, leading to considerable efforts to get a complete overview of existing solutions. This paper focuses on metrics in software reliability in order to: investigate the state-of-the-art in the field of software reliability, synthesize available evidence of their usage, and identify the most popular ones. We have carried out a Systematic Mapping Study that structures and analyzes the literature on software reliability metrics, obtaining a total of 386 studies. On the basis of 128 selected primary papers, the results show an increasing diversity of work. They represent a valid starting point for selecting the most useful metrics for an assessment of reliability in a software system.
In this paper, the role of lightweight IT in process innovation is studied. The research question is how can lightweight IT support process innovation within an established e-health information infrastructure. The empirical evidence is a qualitative case study at a primary care emergency service in Oslo. Two contributions are provided. First, applying the lens of business process innovation to the literature on information infrastructures, the value of the installed base is emphasized, especially the knowledge and practices related to existing horizontal processes, while the implementation project at the same time is speeded up. Second, the role of lightweight technology in improving logistics and message interaction within and between health units is demonstrated. The lightweight technologies availability on the commercial market makes acquisition and implementation faster. Based on this, a “bypassing strategy” where a new layer of technology is built separately from the existing infrastructure in order to effectively address process innovation efforts is suggested.
Technical reviews play a fundamental role in any project. They are pillars in the necessary verification and validation activities. Despite their known importance, they are frequently neglected or inadequately managed. The consequences are always bad in project performance, cost and/or schedule. This paper reviews the role of the technical reviews in the systems approach to project management and identifies the major pitfalls associated with them. A number of cases from the Spanish defense sector in which the technical reviews failed to fulfill their goal are presented and the root causes are analyzed. Finally, a number of recommendations are proposed to improve the way in which the technical reviews are conducted, which should increase the likelihood of successful projects completion.
This paper aims to examine whether cultural differences have an impact on Behavioral Information Security. For this purpose, the authors used ANOVA to investigate if individuals act securely through a survey among three dimensions defined by Hofstede, which are Individualism versus Collectivism (IDV), Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI) and Indulgence versus Restraint (IND). It was found that individuals with collectivism, high UAI and restraint cultural features act more securely than those without these cultural features. The results also revealed that the main effects of IDV and IND, the interaction of IDV and UAI, IDV, UAI and IND, have a significant impact on behavioral information security.
