Abstract

In the last year there have been a lot of changes to the InnovAiT team. David Haslam resigned as InnovAiT editor in November 2009. We would like to thank David for all the invaluable help and support that he has given to InnovAiT (and particularly to me) in his role as Honorary Editor since the Journal began. We would also like to welcome his successor, Iona Heath, to the post of President of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and thus also to the post of Honorary Editor of InnovAiT. We hope that she will enjoy the InnovAiT -part of her new role.
Our founder Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) editor, Mike Houghton, has stepped down in September 2009. We would like to thank him for the fantastic job that he has done setting the standard for the AKTs that appear in the print version of InnovAiT and also for those that appear exclusively online via the InnovAiT website.
It was difficult to pick a suitable replacement for Mike, and so we chose three — welcome to Michael Nandakumar, Ranbir Rajput and Sean McDermott who have taken on the roles of Senior AKT Editor, Junior AKT Editor and Assistant AKT Editor, respectively. I think you will agree that they have succeeded in maintaining Mike's high standards so far.
As you will have read in the December 2009 issue of InnovAiT, our ‘From the Trainer’ Editor, Judith Richardson, has also stepped down for personal reasons. Judith has set an extremely high standard with her easy-to-read page every month that tackles many of the issues that you will encounter as a GP in training. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and for putting so much of herself into her regular feature.
When replacing Judith we felt that there was an opportunity to broaden the range of experiences presented in this section of InnovAiT. As a result, we also appointed three replacements for Judith. Danielle Peet who is currently an ST2 will provide a viewpoint from an Associate-in-Training (AiT) perspective; Clare Taylor who became a fully-fledged GP in November 2009 will provide a perspective from a newly qualified GP and Dominic Roberts who has just completed his training as a GP trainer will continue to provide a perspective from the trainer.
As Danielle was one of our Assistant Editors prior to her new appointment, in her place we have also appointed a new General Assistant Editor, Emma Harding. The posts of General Assistant Editor at InnovAiT are offered to those who have contributed most to InnovAiT in the previous year, so congratulations Emma and I hope that you enjoy your role.
Finally, we have instituted a new buddying scheme for InnovAiT. We realize how daunting a prospect it can be to write an article for a Journal like InnovAiT when you have never written for publication before. Our ‘buddies’ are all experienced writers who have volunteered to help novice writers to get their work into print. If you would be interested in writing an article for InnovAiT with the help of a buddy, then please contact the editorial office.
From the whole InnovAiT team, Happy New Year and welcome to the third year of InnovAiT!
