Abstract

Meralgiaparasthetica is caused by compression of the lateral cutaneous nerve as it passes under the inguinal ligament. Characteristically, the patient complains of a burning or stinging sensation over the anterolateral aspect of the thigh. Diagnosis is confirmed by an absence of motor signs and by excluding pelvic and intra-abdominal pathology.
The onset of symptoms may be associated with a recent change in the patient's weight. Conservative management is usually sufficient.
