Abstract

The following questions for SVU-CME credit are based on the article entitled “EAGLE Syndrome: Case Report, Literature Review, Proposed Classification and Role of Ultrasound in its Diagnosis and Management.”
Both true/false and multiple-choice questions are included. There is only one (1) correct answer for the multiple-choice test items. Answer all the questions listed below. One-half (0.5) CME credit will be awarded for successful completion of this test with a grade of 80% or more.
Eagle syndrome is defined by a spectrum of clinical presentations related to an elongated styloid process or calcified stylohyoid ligament in the neck, which impinges on the adjacent nerves, arteries, or veins. True False
The diagnosis of an elongated styloid process is often delayed. _____________ is considered the diagnostic test of choice. Plain Xray Contrast enhanced computerized tomographic angiography. Diagnostic ultrasound Venography
Eagle Syndrome is considered to present most commonly in females, in their 30s to 50s. True False
The styloid process is considered abnormal if it is over _________. 5 mm in length 10 mm in length 20 mm in length 30 mm in length
The stylohyoid complex is comprised of the styloid process, lesser horn of the hyoid and the stylohyoid ligament. It lies in the base of the skull, arising from the temporal bone and providing anchor for the styloglossal, stylopharyngeus and stylohyoid muscles. True False
The stylo-carotid variant may be associated with a normal length styloid process that is positioned at an angle and impinges on the artery. An abnormal styloid may be found bilaterally and the symptoms are always bilateral. True False
Instructions: CME tests are offered only online at www.svu.org. SVU members can complete the tests and earn CME credit for free. Nonmembers will be charged $20 per one-half (0.5) CME test taken. All tests for SVU CME must be completed by November 30, 2027.
