Abstract

The original Fraser guidelines to assess for Gillick competence were written regarding the prescribing of contraception in those less than 16 years old (although the principles of these guidelines have been used in other aspects of medicine). A young person is defined as ‘Gillick competent’ if they meet the criteria found in Box 3 of the accompanying article ‘Prescribing for children’.
