Abstract

Answer B. Give five abdominal thrusts
If a patient is choking and they are unable to cough and becoming breathless, restless, wheezy or silent, you need to give five sharp back blows. If attempts of the back blows fail to clear the airway from obstruction, the next step is to give five abdominal thrusts, which aim to create a quick increase in the intrathoracic pressure and thus squeeze the object causing the obstruction from the airway.
