Rest-Activity Rhythm Fragmentation and Weaker Circadian Strength Are Associated With Cognitive Impairment in Survivors of Acute Respiratory Failure

Studies investigating the association between C-reactive protein (CRP) and depression among older adults have yielded inconsistent results. We suspect that this may be due to varying associations between CRP and particular depression symptom criteria, and we addressed this challenge using network analysis.
We used cross-sectional data from prepandemic National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey questionnaires (2017–2020) and included a sample of 1698 adults aged 65 years or older. In the model with no covariates, the only symptom criterion associated with CRP was “appetite problems.” This association remained robust after controlling for all covariates. Although not associated with CRP, other criteria such as “fatigue” and “concentration difficulty” showed associations with important covariates for older adults such as white blood cell count or hemoglobin, respectively.
The CRP-related variability in the depression symptom network that we have demonstrated may help explain the reported inconsistencies. The present study stands as exploratory, and future research should focus on applying longitudinal designs and including several other inflammatory proteins and covariates that were not measured in the current network model.
Physical function declines with aging due to physical and biological changes. The biological process of aging has been associated with increases in systemic inflammation and a greater risk for chronic conditions. To systematically summarize the reported prediction models for hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes, compare their performance, and evaluate their applicability in clinical practice.
We selected studies according to the PRISMA, appraised studies according to the Prediction model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST), and extracted and synthesized the data according to the CHARMS. The databases of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library were searched from inception to 31 October 2021 using a systematic review approach to capture all eligible studies developing and/or validating a prognostic prediction model for hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes. The risk bias and clinical applicability were assessed using the PROBAST. The meta-analysis of the performance of the prediction models were also conducted. The protocol of this study was recorded in PROSPERO (CRD42022309852).
Sixteen studies with 22 models met the eligible criteria. The predictors with the high frequency of occurrence among all models were age, HbA1c, history of hypoglycemia, and insulin use. A meta-analysis of C-statistic was performed for 21 prediction models, and the summary C-statistic and its 95% confidence interval and prediction interval were 0.7699 (0.7299–0.8098), 0.7699 (0.5862–0.9536), respectively. Heterogeneity exists between different hypoglycemia prediction models (τ2 was 0.00734≠0).
The existing predictive models are not recommended for widespread clinical use. A high-quality hypoglycemia screening tool should be developed in future studies.

To evaluate the effects of rTMS on drug craving, depression, anxiety, sleep, and cognitive function in methamphetamine (MA) dependent individuals.
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of rTMS interventions for MA-dependent patients were searched through PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang database, Chongqing Vipers (VIP) and China Biomedical Literature Database (CBLD). The included literature was statistically processed using Revman 5.4, and STATA 16.0 for sensitivity and bias analysis.

rTMS was effective in reducing MA dependent individuals' cravings, alleviating depressive symptoms, improving sleep quality and language learning, collaborative learning and executive skills. Due to the small sample size of this study, a large number of RCTs are needed to validate this.
Depression is prevalent among Asian Americans (AsA) during the COVID-19 pandemic, and depression often leads to sleep disturbance in this population. The gut microbiota (GM) plays a critical role in mental health and sleep quality, and the composition of the GM is largely unknown among AsA.
Examine associations of the GM with depressive symptoms and sleep disturbance among Chinese and Korean American immigrants.
Depressive symptoms (PROMIS Short Form-Depression) and sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index [PSQI]) were collected via surveys. PROMIS measure T-score > 55 indicates positive depressive symptoms, and a total PSQI score > 5 indicates sleep disturbance. 16S rRNA V3-V4 gene regions were sequenced from fecal specimens to measure GM. Permutational multivariate analysis of variance and linear discriminant analysis effect size were applied to examine associations of the GM with symptoms.

To explore the correlation between pregnant fatigue and intrauterine physical and neural development of offspring in rats.
Sprague-Dawley pregnant rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a mild fatigue group (stand in water for 6 hours/day), and a severe fatigue group (stand in water for 15 h/day). The levels of lactic acid, 5-Hydroxytryptamine and Interleukin-6 in cardiac serum of rats were used to evaluate the fatigue. The expression of S100β in the telencephalon, Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in the liver and Cyclooxygenage-2 (COX-2) in the small intestine tissues of fetal rats were examined. Frozen sections were taken from the telencephalon of rat pups to observe morphological changes in the hippocampal primordium.

Pregnant fatigue rats had both physical fatigue and mental fatigue. Fatigue during pregnancy affects physical development and neurodevelopment of offspring. Further research should elucidate the mechanisms of pregnant fatigue and its effects on offspring.
The effectiveness and safety of warfarin depend on maintaining an international normalized ratio (INR) within the therapeutic range. Time in Therapeutic Range (TTR) is defined as the percentage of time a patient’s INR is within the therapeutic range.
We sought to determine the factors affecting good TTR in patients on warfarin therapy.
This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in a single tertiary care center. Good anticoagulation control was defined as TTR ≥65%.
The study population consisted of 518 patients. The mean age was 57.6 ± 12.3 (19–87) and 54.4% of the patients were female. 47.5% patients achieved good anticoagulation control (TTR ≥65%).
