This paper uses Rodgers' evolutionary view of concept analysis to define the human response of longing. The purpose is to develop a definition of longing as the first step in diagnosis development.

A literature review was conducted by searching the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, American Theological Library Association Religion, JSTOR Philosophy, JSTOR Religion, PsycINFO, and PubMed databases to yield an across-discipline sample of articles.

Three researchers identified the attributes, antecedents, consequences, situational context, and surrogate terms of longing.

An operational definition was developed.

Longing is clearly a human response to loss, crossing illness and situations in which nurses encounter patients in multiple settings. This supports the need to further develop longing into a nursing diagnosis.

To assess the applicability of the systematization of nursing care (NCS) to outpatient nursing appointments using the NANDA-I and Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) taxonomies.

Data were collected from 40 patients who had appointments with a nurse who specialized in mental health. Nursing diagnoses (NDs) and interventions were classified using the NANDA-I and NIC taxonomies, respectively.

A total of 14 different NDs were detected (minimum of one and maximum of three per appointment). The most frequently made diagnoses were impaired social interaction (00052), anxiety (00146), and ineffective self-health management (00078). A total of 23 nursing interventions were prescribed (approximately two per appointment), of which the most frequent were socialization enhancement (5100), self-care assistance (1800), and exercise promotion (0200). Significant associations were found between the most frequently detected NDs and the most commonly prescribed interventions (p > .05).

The NCS through the use of classification systems allows mental health nurses to better identify and assist poorly adjusted patients.

The assessment of the applicability of the NCS to different areas of health care and types of medical assistance contributes significantly to the quality of nursing care.

verificar a aplicabilidade da Sistematização da Assistência de Enfermagem (SAE) em consulta de enfermagem de saúde mental ambulatorial utilizando as taxonomias NANDA-I e NOC.

Os dados foram obtidos de 40 pacientes que consultaram com enfermeira especialista do programa de enfermagem em saúde mental. Os NDs e as intervenções foram definidos com base nas taxonomias da NANDA-I e da NIC, respectivamente.

Foram identificados 14 diagnósticos de enfermagem (DE) diferentes (mínimo de 1 e máximo de 3 por consulta) e os mais frequentes foram: interação social prejudicada (00052), ansiedade (00146) e autocontrole ineficaz da saúde. Dentre as intervenções de enfermagem foram identificadas 23 (aproximadamente 2 por consulta) e as mais frequentes foram: aumento da socialização (5100) e assistência no autocuidado (1800). Foi verificada associação significativa entre os ND e as intervenções mais frequentes (p < .05).

A SAE em consulta de enfermagem de saúde mental ambulatorial possibilita identificar as respostas desadaptadas e determinar as intervenções prioritárias.

Avaliar a aplicabilidade da SAE em diferentes especialidades e em diferentes modalidades de atendimento contribui para a qualificação do cuidado em enfermagem.

To report an analysis of the concept of evidence-based practice competence for nurses using Walker and Avant's (2011) eight-step, iterative concept analysis process as a guide.

Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, PubMed, OVID, PsycINFO, and Sociological Abstracts were searched.

References were read and analyzed according to associated meanings, usages, attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents.

An operational definition for the concept was developed.

A clear and operational definition of evidence-based practice competence will help guide nurses at all levels of experience to use the best available evidence for improving the quality of care and maximizing patient outcomes.

This study was descriptively conducted to explore attitudes of nursing students related to caring for dying patients in central Anatolia.

The study was completed with 222 third-year students of nursing school originating from three universities in Turkey.

It was explored that Frommelt Attitudes Toward Care of the Dying Scale (FATCOD) scores of the students who had previously cared for terminal patients at the clinics were significantly higher, and the scores of those who regarded themselves as nonbeliever in terms of religion were significantly lower (p < .05).

It was seen that nursing students’ FATCOD scores were at a moderate level.

We are of the opinion that it will be helpful that nursing students should be trained about the care for dying patients during their formal education.

Bu çalışma Orta Anadolu'daki hemşirelik öğrencilerinin ölmekte olan bireye bakım vermeye ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek amacı ile tanımlayıcı olarak yapıldı.

Bu çalışma, Türkiye'deki üç üniversitenin üçüncü ve dördüncü sınıf hemşirelik bölümü 222 öğrencisiyle tamamlandı. Veriler öğrenci bilgi formu ve Frommelt Ölmekte Olan Bireye Bakım Vermeye İlişkin Tutum Ölçeği (FATCOD) ile toplandı. Mann-Whitney U ve Kruskal-Wallis testi kullanıldı.

Daha önce kliniklerde terminal dönemdeki hastalara bakım veren öğrencilerin FATCOD ölçek puanlarının anlamlı şekilde yüksek olduğu ve öğrencilerden kendini dini açıdan inançsız olarak ifade edenlerin puanları da anlamlı olarak düşük bulundu (p < .05).

Hemşirelik öğrencilerinin FATCOD puanlarının orta düzeyde olduğu saptandı.

Hemşirelik öğrencilerine eğitimleri süresince ölmekte olan bireyin bakımına ilişkin eğitimlerin verilmesinin yararlı olacağı düşünülmektedir.
